Virtual Lego Models

Introduction

People have created some wonderful tools for creating Lego models on your computer. You can use these tools to build virtual models out of virtual Lego pieces. And, as if this wasn't neat enough, you can use other tools to 'render' your Lego model. This results in a fantastic looking image of your virtual Lego model.

I have a small gallery of some Lego models I have created from scratch on the computer and rendered. This is just a small example of what is possible with the tools I am linking to on this page. If you're interested in building your own Lego models on the computer, be sure to check out my instruction page on How to Create Lego Models on your computer.

Lego Modelling Tools

There are several great tools you can use to create Lego models on your computer.

LeoCAD

LeoCAD is the program I used to create my Lego models. There are versions of the software available for Windows and Linux.

MLCAD

MLCAD is another great Lego modelling program. Be sure to try this one out, too.

BrickDraw3D

I've never used BrickDraw3D before, seeing as how it's a Macintosh program, but I figure I'd throw Mac users a bone. ;-)

LDRAW

LDraw not a modelling program, per se. Rather, it is a parts library. LDraw is a necessary component in rendering Lego models created with LeoCAD or MLCAD. The site has tons of information on creating Lego models. A must visit site for computerized Lego model creators.

Rendering Lego Models

See my guide for rendering Lego models for more information.
