TREASURE

Ah, what every adventurer truly fights for (aside from babes). The Kingdom of Elrond is littered with treasure chests just waiting to be discovered! Kuros keeps some items found in chests throughout the game, but others -- mostly the ones you activate with the Select Button -- are replaced when new items are found. For example, the Feather of Feather Fall is yours permanently after you find it, but if you have the Boots of Force and find the Wand of Wonder, say goodbye to your Boots of Force. To open treasure chests, you need to find the key which matches the color of the chest. The keys also unlock doors which use the same color coding scheme.

Treasure chests most often contain gems. In most levels you need a certain amount of gems to bribe the indestructible Guardian to allow you to continue your quest.
Found in the first level, the Dagger of Throwing is an essential part of your somewhat limited arsenal. It always comes back when you throw it (which makes for some neat kills when it misses you on its return and hits an enemy behind you :-)
You'll find this dagger replacement in the Caverns of Fire, I believe. I think it's stronger than the Dagger of Throwing (only noticeable on bosses).
You'll find the shield in the treetops of the first stage. It's usefull for deflecting most bullets and fireballs. If you don't pick it up on the first level, you'll have to play the game without one.
Who needs keys when you've got the Boots of Force? Just kick open any locked door or treasure chest! This item appears in more than one place.
Put on these boots and you can ride the firespout across the lakes of lava in the Caverns of Fire. I think it might also make you take less damage while walking on lava, but I'm not 100% sure.
With the cloak of darkness you can become temporarily invisible. Enemies can still hurt you...if they can find you. This is kind of stupid actually because it really makes you invisible except for some sparkles around the edges of your form. If you were invincible for the time you were invisible, this would be a decent item.
Blow the horn and any nearby secret doors to rooms filled with gems will appear before your eyes. It's a neat idea because it allows you to find all the secret rooms from that point on in the game, but at the cost of not having some more powerful magic item to attack with like the Staff of Power.
Temporarily freeze enemies with a magical blast!
A quadruple fireball is sure to make its presence felt! Very useful on bosses.
A permanent item, which is odd considering it's a potion (I wonder why you have to throw away your Cloak of Darkness if you later find Boots of Force, but you can use a potion as many times as you want). Press Up on the Control Pad and you levitate about one body length into the air, giving you that much extra height on your jumps.
Another permanent item. Press Up whilst falling and your descent is slowed to that of a feather.
